11 signs that your website needs a redesign part 3: Optimization for the user

Never forget that your website is designed primarily for your visitors. It is therefore important to put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself if what you see will please them.

In this last part of the series, (see part 1: the content and part 2: the technology) we will focus mainly on the ease of use of your site, and if it really is useful for you as a tool to get new customers.

9. Your site is not suitable for mobile devices

As more than half of the visits to the sites now come from mobile devices, it is imperative that your site is adapted for them, whether with a mobile version or a responsive website.

If your website is more than 3 years old, chances are it is not adapted to display properly on a mobile device, and you will lose a lot of visitors as a result.

10. Your site is not optimized to convert potential customers

When a user visits your site, it is important to take them by the hand and guide them to the appropriate sections that will make them a potential customer, just as if they were visiting your business in person.

If your site doesn’t invite them to take a closer look at your information or provide them with an opportunity to interact, you could be missing out on many opportunities.

Go see your home page. Do you find there a registration form, a newsletter, a video, an invitation to consult some of your products? Are your calls to action easily visible?

If not, it’s definitely time to rethink the layout of your homepage elements.

11. There is no interaction with social media

Did you know that in 2012, 78% of consumers say that company messages on social media influence their purchases? (source: Forbes)

The conversations you have on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram are also beneficial for your website visitors. A link to your profiles allows you to get in touch more easily with your potential customers, allows them to know you better and even to be part of your community.

What to do with your website now?

If you have at least 3 of the problems mentioned in this series, it is important to plan an update or a complete redesign, depending on the problems your site is having.

Although doing business with a professional may seem expensive in some cases, you should consider this expense as an investment. When a website is well thought out and created, it quickly becomes a tool to either get more potential customers, make more sales or make your brand shine even more.

So don’t hesitate, get started!
